HOW TO WEAR PLAID ALL YEAR LONG

1/09/2018 eymi 3 Comments

am sure you have read numbers of times, articles on magazines or blogs about how Plaid is the biggest thing for the Fall season, and i have to agree with each one of those posts, but after i read them i find myself wondering..¨Why can i only wear this for Fall?¨- What if i want to wear plaid any other season?- well, the obvious answer (yes, to my own question) was that you can wear this trend ALL YEAR LONG!, and i will tell you exactly HOW. Just keep on reading to find out not just styling tips but some big important information about Plaid that will make you reach Pro level when it comes to rock this trend.

MYTHS ABOUT PLAID

1. Plaid can only be wore on cold weather

No, being a pattern it can be seen in a number of different fibers -in most of the fabrics you can think of- it goes from fresh cotton fibers to silk dupioni, all the way to the famous woven flannel that we all know and love.

2. Plaid and Tartan are the same

Not exactly, they are pretty similar- as one is the derivation or inspiration to the other, but Tartan has a very unique and culture rich design that makes it really easy to distinguish from ¨plain¨ Plaid. The biggest difference is that Tartan has a design of stripes that cross Horizontally and Vertically and these stripes has the exact same design in both directions, and Plaid does not always has the same pattern in both axis.

3. Plaid is only for oversized ¨grunge¨ like shirts

False, so so false!. Plaid is has became such a big thing that we can find this pattern in everything from tops, pants, skirts, bags, shoes, accessories and so on!.

4. You have to be size 0 in order to wear Plaid

No, you can be a plus size and still rock Plaid. You just need to be aware of wearing the pattern in proportion of your body and flattering your shape.

STYLING TIPS

When you find yourself in doubt on whether you should wear a pattern because of your type of body just keep this in mind: - is it a large or small pattern? and most importantly... - how to find an excuse to go out and let everybody see how good you look in your outfit- (Yes girl!).

Now seriously, in order to look proportionated you need to keep in mind that if you are more on the petite side you should stay on the small side and wear a small version of the pattern, if you are tall you can either choose to wear small or large patterns, and if you have wide upper body then you should wear the pattern mostly on the lower part of your body and do the exact opposite if you are wider in the lower part of your body.

Note: if you are a fashion rebel like me, don't stick with the rules and try on several garments intercalating Small or Large Plaid patterns and stand yourself in front of a head to toe mirror and see which option flatters your figure the most.
